It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Joyce Dean (Campbell) Rice, who departed this life peacefully on September 23, 2025 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN. Born on April 28, 1932 in Cannon Co., TN., she was the daughter of the late Nina Campbell Dodd and Medford Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Irvin Rice; daughter, Jill Diane; siblings, Doris Campbell and his wife, Betty, Peggy Starnes, Johnny Campbell, Delmar Ray Campbell, Sam Lester Campbell and Ralph Douglas Campbell and brother-in-law, Jerry Fazekas.
She is survived by her children, Joe (Annette) Rice and Debra Lyn Stocking (Dana Lowell); grandchildren, Ashley Joanna Rice (Erik) Haslinger, Zachary Paul (Emily) Ivie and Nicholas Alan Ivie; great grandchildren, Winfrey Belle Ivie, Bonnie Dean Ivie and Wesley Beau Ivie; sisters, Juanita Fazekas and Patricia (Raymond) Cooper and brother-in-law, Tommy Starnes.
Joyce was a cherished family member, friend and member of the Sunny Slope Church of Christ. She graduated high school at Hammond High School in Hammond, IN and received clerical training at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. She retired from Middle Tennessee State University working with admissions. She was also an editor assistant for the Lansing Journal newspaper of Lansing, IL., a bank teller in Dyer, IN., and a clerical worker for the Colonial Corporation in Woodbury, TN. During her later years, she was an active volunteer for the Cannon County Senior Center and achieved Volunteer of the Year on multiple occasions. She was awarded Ms. Senior Good Ole Days Queen for 2025. She is remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for those around her.
Her family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2025 beginning at 8:00 A.M. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Joyce’s life, share memories and offer support to one another during this difficult time. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Al Bugg officiating. Interment will follow in the Leoni cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cannon Co. Senior Center or American Cancer Society. In honor of Joyce’s legacy of compassion and generosity.
