Andy Bartsch Abruptly Resigns As Lions Head Football Coach

Jul 07, 2025 at 11:57 am by kready

Cannon County High School Football Head Coach Andy Bartsch turned in his letter of resignation Monday morning.  Bartsch served one season as head coach in his second go-round.  The Lions went 6-5 last year reaching the first round of the playoffs.
Bartsch said he factored in the responsiblities of the job versus the pay and the time spent away from his family was a big reason for his resignation.  Bartsch is stepping away from football altogether as he has accepted a job at Lavergne High School as the Drivers Education teacher.
The only football duties he will have is as lawn caretaker of Wolverine Stadium.
The Lions started out with over 45 players during spring practice.  The number of players dwindled down to 35 right before the TSSAA two-week dead period.  There was also reports of on-going friction between Bartsch and the Touchdown Club of Cannon County who serves as the program's booster club.
Cannon County is scheduled to participate in two 7-on-7s this week at Upperman Tuesday before hosting a 7-on-7 Thursday morning at Fred Schwartz Field.
