Lace up this month for some physical activity, Blue Raider community, and a good cause. Spots are still open to join Middle Tennessee State University’s team for Sept. 27’s Music City Run for Dyslexia at Shelby Park in Nashville.

“Please consider registering, joining our team and showing your ‘True Blue’pride,” said Karen Kehoe, director of the Tennessee Center for the Study and Treatment of Dyslexia at MTSU, which is also a sponsor of the event. “You, your partner, kids, friends and neighbors are all welcome!”

The annual run opens at 6:45 a.m. at the Riverview Pavilion at Shelby Park and kicks off with the 1-mile “Dyslexia Dash” at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K and 10K at 8:15 a.m., and wraps up with an awards ceremony around 8:45 a.m. Participants can choose to run the 5K, 10K or 1-mile dash at registration with all proceeds benefitting Learning Matters, a nonprofit organization that supports free and affordable tutoring for students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities in the greater Nashville area.

Kehoe said not to forget to join MTSU’s team — the “Blue Readers” — during registration at https://tinyurl.com/4m6a9sfc. Participants can also save $5 on their overall fee with code MCR4D255.

“Each finisher gets a T-shirt, cool medal and post-race snacks,” Kehoe said. “There are also prizes for largest team and team with most spirit.”

This will be the university’s third year sponsoring and participating in the event. Kehoe said last year’s team ended up braving Hurricane Helene.

“We had a good – if rainy – time!” she said.

This year, Kehoe wants to show up “in force” with a team of 10 to 20 walkers and runners.
